I am a swimmer.  Running, light hiking and even walking has been terribly painful for so long that I never took up any sport or exercise on my feet.  I inherited whatever it is that conspires with modern footwear to cause bad bunions and I have had them since at least junior high.  I love getting out and if it wasn't for the pain I would have hiked the world by now, but have always been hesitant to get out much for fear of pain.  I bought some vff classics the other day and went out for the first walk/hike that didn't cause shin and foot pain in I-don't-know-how-long.  It is so great, I am so happy with them. 

There is one problem.  I think I have to get a bigger size!  My toes feel too tight now after a few days of use.  Is this a typical breaking in issue?  Or do feet change once using vffs??

    HOw do they feel tight? Are they pushing against the end of the toe pocket or just tight on the sides? What are your foot measurements and VFF size? What color did you get? They will stretch a little as you break them in and feet do change as a result of VFF use, but it takes time for that.

    They are pushing against the end of my toes.  My big toes and pinky toes in particular.  Didn't feel this at first.  My foot measured a borderline 39-40 and of course I thought the 39 was better in the store.  In the morning when you AREN'T supposed to try new shoes on.  So I bought them at REI and they look brand new.  I'm going to take them back tomorrow and get the 40s.  Oh, they are black.
  • My black classics were tight on my piny toes toe, but they broke in ok. I also think my feet shortened a little as I developed arches. NOw my pinky toes feel nice.

    Sounds like you should go with the 40, especially since you got black.
  • Does the material color affect sizing?  Is there a thread here that goes into that?
  • Solid black tends to run tighter than other colors especially in KSOs, but it's been noticed in classics too. Check the VFF fit and sizing board.
  • OK got my 40s and am all set.  Yay!  Thanks for the tips Hawkeye!
  • Have fun, but take it slow or you could be out with seriously sore calves. Sore calves are normal. Seriously sore calves that make walking hard is a result of running too far too fast too soon.

    Oh the joys of new VFFs.
